Day 5
It’s been almost a week and I am happy to report we are still going strong.
I started my day with just heavy cream in my coffee, I added some vanilla but I still missed the sweetness of my usual creamer.
After doing some work on my computer for a couple hours I made my way to the YMCA and I managed to walk on the treadmill for 40 minutes. I listened to an audiobook for distraction and it did help. I can’t jog, after breaking my ankle twice in the past few years it just hurts too much when I try to run at all, but I was pretty happy with walking on an incline for 40 minutes, even though my legs were pretty sore by the end. I know that getting back to exercise is a big part of this weight loss journey.
I didn’t bother getting on the scale yet since its only been two days since I weighed my self at the YMCA, and weekly weight checks seems like a better option for tracking progress.
I was doing some reading and found out that only one third of US citizens are at a healthy weight – that means two thirds are overweight or obese. Peter and I are definitely not alone in our struggle for weight loss. I was also surprised to learn that only one third of all men and women between ages 25 and 64 workout regularly. I feel like those two pieces of information fit well together so I am even more committed to find time for exercise each day.
I am still not feeling hungry at all, but I do sure miss those carbs. I had a great lunch of tuna fish and then I headed out to a work meeting. They had lovely bowls of snacks for us at the meeting and I couldn’t eat any of it, so I just stuck to drinking water. One of the things I have noticed is that I am not getting tired in the afternoons like I usually do. Without those sugar highs and lows I don’t feel that afternoon lull that so often comes after eating.
After the meeting I went over to an open house event at my local democrat office and once again they had amazing snacks – nachos and beer, but I couldn’t have any. I sipped on a diet soda and had fun even without the goodies. It is tempting to eat those carbs, I know how great they will taste to me, but I really do want to do my best effort on this diet and see if I can get some results.
Once I got home I warmed up two hot dogs that Peter had grilled a few days ago, and I had 5 strawberries.
Peter has not weighed himself yet, but I can tell that he is slimming down already. He has been great about packing lunches for work, usually a salad and a hamburger patty. He packs some Italian dressing and a couple cheese sticks to snack on when he get hungry.
Planning ahead and not giving in to temptations really are the key to staying on track.
Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lydia - I appreciate all the support I can get.
DeleteGood job resisting all that temptation. Too bad I didn't resist the M&Ms at work yesterday! It really is a hard thing to resist temptation. I think the weekly weigh in is a good idea - when you see the number you'll be so pleasantly surprised, I suspect. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Alana - I know this is going to be a marathon, not a sprint.
