Day 2
I have been so overwhelmed with positive messages of support after posting my Day 1 blog.
It is only Day 2 but so far so good. In the morning I had my coffee (still with regular creamer until it runs out). Even usual daily routines can be affected when counting carbs. My ‘Fiber Choice” supplements have 7 carbs – yikes! I guess I will have to look for some fiber pills without carbs.
For breakfast today I made myself two scrambled eggs with some cheese. I ate my breakfast late so I managed to just have an Atkins bar for a quick lunch before heading out to work. I really worked hard at increasing my amount of water, which is hard for me as I am not a natural water drinker so I do have to push myself. For dinner I made myself a piece of fish with some lemon pepper and butter. Just a quick side note, I was not paying attention and went to shake a little of the lemon pepper but apparently I had opened the larger side so a huge pile of lemony pepper covered my fish, I had to shake it off and rise the pan quickly, but after cooking it came out great. I also made myself some yummy slices of zucchini that I tossed in some olive oil and spices and then covered with parmesan. That was delicious and I will definitely make that again. I really have not been hungry so far.
My hubby brought himself a hamburger patty and a couple cheese sticks to work, and he had to work late so when he got home he made himself a steak for dinner. I did offer to make him some veggies but he said he was fine with just his steak (which sounded like a bad idea to me). I am always trying to get my hubby to eat more veggies.
Later in the evening I decided to splurge on a small glass of dry red wine, which according to my research does not have a lot of carbs. When Peter began to have his late night snack cravings I gave him a yummy Atkins candy bar that I had bought. Since I had splurged on the wine I did not have one of the candy bars myself, but I did take a bit and it was good. According to the package it has only 2 net carbs. I know Peter has a sweet tooth so for him to be successful on this diet I knew I had to be prepared with some snacks that he was allowed to have.
I have not yet experienced any of the “Keto Flu” symptoms that people talk about and honestly I am doing okay with my carb free lifestyle right now. Watching TV is hard though, there are so many commercials with chips and pizza and all kinds of goodies that we can’t/shouldn’t have.
There is a pizza place near us that has cauliflower crust pizza so we might have to have a date night this weekend and see if that Pizza will suffice for Peter’s pizza cravings (he loves pizza).
Now that we are getting our diet organized, our next step is to increase our activity level. I am hoping to get Peter to come with me to the YMCA tomorrow, but even if he doesn’t want to go, I really have to make myself go anyway. Keto will only work if I can increase the number of calories I burn. My body won’t start burning fat unless it actually needs those calories from increased exercise.
Another benefit of going to the YMCA is that I can weigh myself. We don’t currently own a scale, our cheap old one broke and was thrown away. I have never been a big fan of focusing on the exact number on the scale, but in this case I do want to track my changes over time on this diet so having a starting point and then doing weekly checks of my progress are important to keep me motivated (or at least that’s wishful thinking on my part).
I am really struggling over the idea of sharing my actual weight. This is extremely scary for any overweight person. To have people actually know how much I weigh is terrifying, but it also can be a powerful force for getting me to work hard at losing weight. I am not sure if I am brave enough, but it is only a number after all.
Thanks again for all the encouragement and good wishes – they really do help!
I started Keto about two weeks ago and did feel a bit of the flu-like symptoms around day 7 or 8. But they went away. Good luck to both of us!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, I haven't felt anything yet except a little light-headed so I appreciate your advice. Yes - Good luck to both of us!
