Day 4-
Four days in and we’re still going strong. I did come across some challenges, but was able to stay focused on and on track.
First, I went over to a friend’s house in the morning and everyone was enjoying mimosas and donuts. Yikes! I can’t have either of those. It was hard being there and seeing everyone enjoying all those carbs. I decided to accept my friend’s offer of a mimosa, but I asked him for only half a glass. I allowed myself two small sips so I wouldn’t feel left out. I know that it is really important to maintain my diet, my body won’t go into ketosis if I cheat, but I also know that allowing myself a small sip is important so I won’t feel deprived. I also accepted the drink so I didn’t have to feel awkward and tell everyone that I am on a diet. After my two small sips I put my glass down and continued to drink my water. I didn’t even look at the donuts, which is tough because I really love donuts. Socializing with friends is great but it usually involves food, so it is important to be aware of the pitfalls.
Later in the day hubby and I met a friend to go see a movie, the latest new Marvel film Ant Man & the Wasp. Once again I was tempted, going to the movies is synonymous with eating popcorn, which is definitely NOT on the Keto diet. Just walking in the theatre and smelling all that yummy carb loaded popcorn, I could feel my mouth watering. Luckily I did plan ahead for the movie. I packed myself a container with some pecans and almonds. I was able to crunch and munch on a healthy alternative snack, and the movie was so good that I didn’t even notice the lack of popcorn.
I was not able to make it to the YMCA because they close early on the weekends, but I did go out in the pool and do swim jogging for at least 15 minutes. It’s not much but it is something. I also parked extremely far from the theatre entrance, and I refused a ride to my car, instead choosing the walk. I am hoping that each of these small changes will add up to big results.
Dinner tonight was a yummy piece of salmon and more of those delicious Parmesan zucchini chips that I made the other day. Peter really liked them too. I really have not been hungry at all. I am hoping that I will have the same successful results as so many others on this Keto diet have had, even with two small sips of a mimosa today.
I do think the key to maintaining this diet is to plan ahead, like having my own snacks packed for the movie. Planning and a positive attitude are the tools I need to succeed.
